Art Deco Black & White Painted Porcelain Flapper Silhouette

According to PAINTED PORCELAIN JEWELRY & BUTTONS by Dorothy Kamm, flapper portraits were done in a narrow window of time, between 1922 and 1930. During this time period black and white was also stylish, as it is now. Wouldn't it surprise everyone if you showed up in this  antique brooch with your black & white accessories, perhaps as a scarf pin or on your shirt? Or with a dark red dress!

While many portraits were made with the use of transfers, this one is entirely hand painted, first with a layer of an opalescent luster glaze, which lends a subtle dance of colors to the background. Then the portrait was added in thick layers of black.  I love the detailed silhouette portrait--look at the jewels in her hair--and finished with a black band around the edge.

There are no chips in the porcelain, and the paint is nearly immaculate; any fading or wear can be seen only under magnification. The brass setting is sound; the open C-hook holds well. Size is 1 7/8" tall x 1 1/2" wide. Enjoy this rare beauty in very good + condition. $78

Big De Lizza & Elster  Shocking Pink Rhinestone Butterfly

I've seen this unsigned beauty immortalized in a book somewhere, but never mind, it's gorgeous, and you'll never need another summertime brooch! Verified as Juliana, this ostentatious butterfly is a double layered blazing confection of two subtly different shades of pink--medium pink and a cooler pink, almost fuchsia, to accentuate the varied patterns of stones. WE have plump navettes in assorted sizes and  long thin navettes with various sized chatons, all prong set in very light gold tone plating. Stones are all clear, bright & sparkling; the plating has wear in back, but the wear is not ugly. Measuring 3 1/8" at the upper wing tips and 2 7/8 from top of antennae to lower wing tip, this brooch has good heft and is ready to dress up that jacket or purse with a shocking splash of Pink. Want some extra attention? For the hottest days on the beach, tie a scarf around your bosom and pin it together with this brooch! Guaranteed you'll hardly be able to keep it on! Very Good condition. $78

Egyptian Revival Brooch with Colored Beads & Charms

This unusual offering will evoke an aura of mystery and add color and style to daytime or party wear from a plain T-shirt  to a silk blouse, jacket or purse! And wouldn't it look great pinned to just the right scarf?  The large brooch shows a lovely Art Nouveau lady face repousse like gilded brass plate, backed by a brass floral and foliate filigree stamping.  A  gilded chain festoons below with dangling multicolor beads and brass lady face charms.  The back offers are very early safety clasp that works well. I suspect this may be a  1930's piece, but may be later. The beads are light weight colored glass; they are not all perfectly round, but irregular in shape.   In addition are rhinestones--on the lady's the lady's helmet a red stone in a serrated setting, and two flanking the sides in floral cup settings. The light blue stone is a bit smaller; it may be a replacement. The brooch is 3" wide and and 3 5/8" tall from top to the bottom of the lowest dangle. Very Good condition.  $68

Limoges Perfume Bottle Pin

A Colonial couple enjoy holding hands in the outdoors in the paint-on-transfer porcelain set within the thick glass bottle. You can see the prongs from the back. Gilded metal partially encases the bottle with exquisite openwork along the sides and around the cap, which sports a bright green rhinestone on the very top. The narrow bar pin holds the bottle by golden chain and is equipped with an open C-clasp. There is no perfume left but the vivid fragrance remains; I almost couldn't part with this because the scent is utterly enchanting.  The pin hangs 2 1/8", and the bottle is nearly 1 1/4" from top of lid to bottom. The back of the porcelain is stamped in gold "Made in Limoges France." Condition is Very Good. $65

Exquisite Early Century Shell Cameo in Brass Setting

This delightful lady has some of the plumpness of Victorian ladies, but her hair is bobbed and her nose uptilted, signifying an early century date, perhaps into the 1930's. Notice the individual hair strands, the lovely draping of her gown, and the flowers and foliage at her shoulder and her deep set eyes. Her color is ivory with hints of a red-brown layer showing through on her skin and in her hair, carved against a carnelian colored background. She rests in a gilded hammered setting with early lever type safety clasp. On close examination it appears that the bezel was once gilded, but the gold coloring has worn off down to silver base metal. Measurements, including the frame, is 1 1/2" tall x 1 1/4" wide. She is perfect, with no cracks, chips, scratches or discoloration. Excellent. $78

Multicolor Art Glass & Navette Rhinestone Domed Brooch

You aren't really spoiled, but you certainly deserve to be! And here's just the Juliana-style jewel to not only delight your sense of luxury, but also to delight his sense of you. The domed jewel is piled high with marquise cut rhinestones, foiled art glass, molded glass, aurora borealis & sparkling confetti stones. All stones are set in either 4-prong or dog tooth prong settings. Accented by chatons in AB peacock, lavender and light topaz, you can hardly see the smooth gold tone finding where the stones bask luxuriously. Dimensions are 2 7/8" long, but the brooch seems much larger because it rises a full inch from the lower surface. You will sparkle every which way in this beauty! Very Good condition, with minor surface wear that can be seen only under 5x magnification. $58

Emmons BIG Aurora Borealis Rhinestone Filigree Leaf Brooch.

Here's AB rhinestone wonder that is nearly blinding, the clean silver color of the rhodium plating being nearly white! (in the scan it shows a bit grayer) If you've ever seen Christmas tree lights reflect on snow, then you'll see this brooch is as great for the holidays as it will be for summertime evenings. The stem leads to four curving filigree leaf fronds set with crystal AB rhinestone in half prongs flashing rainbow lights like crazy. The delicate beaded filigree edges add a wondrous lacy look. So feminine and so perfectly striking--imagine this on almost any color, from deep saturated jewel tones to grays and buttery pastels. Exotic Sterling Hand with Marcasites and Garnet Colored Stones
SOLD

Beautiful and unusual, at first I thought this sterling hand brooch was genuine Victorian, but you can tell from the rolling safety clasp that it is a later piece, anytime from 30's to 1960's. Its a well made, fine jewel with genuine marcasites set in the ribbon rolled around that lady's wrist and  forefinger. Below is a sleeve of scalloped beaded sterling decorated with garnet colored stones. I do not know if these are real garnets. The cut like modern glass tones set openback. This is a thick piece, very heavy for it's size, marked 925 faintly inside the hand. I've seen nothing like this, except there have been hand pins with long mandarin fingernails, but not like this. The brooch is 2 1/2" from tip of long fingernail to bottom of ruff, and 1 1/4 wide. Excellent condition.
