Harry Iskin is known for his elegant 1930s & 1940s Retro Modern Designs. Some of the jewelry is better than the markings. For instance, during the war Iskin created sterling vermeil jewelry, but not all of it is marked sterling. Also, often the gold fill is higher quality than stated. When you buy Harry Iskin jewelry that is marked only 1/20 10K GF, take it to your jeweler and have it tested! Never consider jewelry like this an expense, but an investment.

Always designed with drama in mind, prepare to be noticed when you wear this graceful Harry Iskin Retro Modern WWII design. Most, if not all of Iskin 1940s jewelry offers unfoiled stones in rich colors, and the prong-set tin ruby red stone in the center of the double layered bloom centers is no exception. With vermeil leave that stretch out happily, the wire tendrils curl around faux pearls (You'll swear they are real!) This pin measures 3 1/8" tall x about 2 1/4" wide, and with the curved design it covers a lot of area on that deserving coat or blouse! Marked HI Sterling on the round plaque on the reverse. Large Hobe AB Rhinestone Strawberry Brooch

Very, Very hard to find. Almost all the top designers offered the ever- popular strawberry pin, but this Hobe beauty, at 2 3/4" long x 1 3/8" wide, is the biggest I've ever seen. Offering the same great quality Hobe is known for, this japanned brooch has a nicely enameled openwork leaf cap opening to a sheath of sparkling pave Aurora Borealis Red AB rhinestones. Signed Hobe with the (c) mark inside, this great brooch is in Excellent condition. $58

Welcome to this spectacular blue glass navettes and aurora borealis AB rhinestone necklace and earrings set by Hobe. The design and color evokes a sense of mystery and romance at sea beneath twinkling stars. The necklace is done with silvertone mesh chain and gorgeous prong set art glass navettes in two tones--a deep steely moonlit blue with shadowed edges. Accenting is a line of Aurora Borealis rhinestones flashing off gold, turquoise, green, magenta, purple, and any color chancing into the environment. The necklace claps at 16" with an adjustable J hook for tightening if desired. Keep in mind the necklace forms slightly to the neck, so is a bit roomier than 16" might suggest. One side of the chain ends in a crystal bead. The matching clip on earrings are real climbers at 1 5/8" tall x 7/8". Both earrings are signed HOBE (no copyright mark) on the classic roller clips. This little guy has had too much nectar and become round as a butterball! Well made and heavy for his size, this critter has a body of pave pink rhinestones with a head of dark red pave stones and green tips on his antennae. The metal setting is all japanned, including the textured openwork wings. He's only 1 7/8" tall and 1 1/4" wide, but he's so plump his wings rise about 1/2" from the pinstem. In excellent condition, he deserves to be your special springtime friend. $48

Hong Kong ~ There were many pieces of jewelry imported by Hong Kong before WWII, through the late 1940s and early 1950s, then again after the Korean war. Some of the jewelry is very nice, of at least the same quality as the Japanese and German imports. From Hong Kong, one can find many very pretty multi-strand necklaces of glass, faux pearls & art beads, some with fancy clasps, fruit & flower necklaces & bracelet sets. Here's an unusual example of the hand made pendant necklaces that were made in the same kind of original boho style as the Indian bangles--made heavy clay enameled green, into which decorations were pressed. We don't see the pendants as often, and this one is quite unusual with it's diamond shape. Along with the pretty golden mirror pieces and the usual white donut beads, there are also spring green donut beads and rings of magenta textured wire. A scalloped golden metal wire frames the pendant like sunrays. All beads and mirror pieces are intact, as well as the paint. The 2 7/8" pendant hangs from the original 27" chain of tiny hand cut green glass beads chained together with silver colored wire. It hooks with a J-hook, tight enough to clasp on any part of the chain so you can wear the necklace shorter if you wish. You will love wearing this, and will definitely be noticed. This is a great discussion piece and a fabulously fun piece for parties and casual wear. Stamped in back MADE IN INDIA. Very Good condition. $38

Italy, Italian Jewelry~Vintage Costume Jewelry marked Italy or Made in Italy.

JJ Jonette Jewelry Company produced jewelry from 1934 until 2006. The company began as Providence Jewelry Company, then Lisker & Lisker. After WWII, the name was changed to Jonette Jewelry Company with the marking JJ, in a variety of texts. Their figural and novelty pins are highly collectible, and their vintage lines are becoming more sought after since the company closed. Their figurals from the 1970's and 1980's are among the best; the big pewter brooches are so thick and sturdy you can literally use them as weapons! Some are gold plated and even sterling silver (I don't think they ever marked it--you have to test!) They also had some interesting modernist designs which are now very hard to find, as are the 60's - 80's pendants and necklace sets.

Wonderful Large JJ Locket Necklace!

This is a great find; older JJ does not come up very often, and this locket necklace has been around for at least since the '60s or '70s. The oval porcelain-like (plastic or metal) panel offers the prettiest blue and white floral decoration in a frame of gold tone polished and patterned openwork. The hinge opens to a generous, roomy area with an embossed star and beaded texturing. You can put a 1 5/8" picture, hair, or some other keepsake inside and the locket will snap shut, tightly. It hangs on a 24" chain and fastens with a spring ring. Signed JJ (c) in back. Excellent condition. $58

Judy Lee According to Fred Rezazadeh in his book COSTUME JEWELRY, Judy Lee Jewels began in the 1950's following a home party distribution plan similar to Sarah Coventry and Emmons. However, Judy Lee jewels are much more scarce.

Clip ons. These elegant earclips offer an amazing color--dusky apricot. The gold tone metal offers two tiers of scallop designs colored two tones of dark apricot and near beige metallic paint. The top levels ar4e set with dusky apricot moonglow Lucite beads. The central motif rises in a dome shape for a slightly chunky look, and the jewels are a bit over 1" in diameter. We couldn't resist offering you this wonderful, heavy necklace set by Karla Jordan. Some of her greatest jewels were made in the 1970s, and she did Art Deco revival very nicely with this design. A classic spread wing and step pattern motif in the necklace centerpiece and the earrings are done with carved howlite which has been dyed coral, a color complimentary to complexions of all shades. Howlite, like many gemstones, is cool to the touch and feels heavenly against the skin. The necklace fastens with a lobster clasp at 18". The centerpiece dips 2" deep in the center. The matching clip on earrings measure a lavish 1 1/2" tall x 1 1/8" wide. Signed Karla Jordan on the hang tag. Everything is in Excellent condition. Enjoy for $68

Gray Kingsburg N.Y. This mystery signature is rare, but costume jewelry signed Gray Kingsburg NY appears to be from the 1930s or early '40s and is high in quality.

This big, unusual brooch offers a shining chrome shield surrounded by a heavily textured brass bezel and is centered with a porcelain romantic couple portrait, a colorful transfer. The heavy brass crown is beautifully beaded and textured, with separate loop-swirls extending out; these are also engraved with beautiful designs. Below, extending from the bezel is a brass filigree embellished as only Victorian grandeur can be. This incredible jewel offers a hooked pendant loop at the top; it is 3 3/4" tall x 
2 1/2" wide and in Excellent condition.
