D&E, DeLizza & Elster, & Juliana Jewelry

Juliana jewelry was originally made by DeLizza & Elster, who created rhinestone jewelry that was never signed but was marketed with paper hang tags, which, of course, are removed before wear. Because of that, it's not accurate to proclaim true DeLizza and Elster without clear knowledge of the characteristics of the jewelry (and there are plenty of exceptions to the rules,) and/or confirmation from Frank DeLizza. Some of the jewelry in this category has been confirmed by Mr. DeLizza.

We carry other colorful rhinestone jewelry in this category which is clearly described as "not Juliana" because Mr. DeLizza confirmed it as NOT D&E, and other jewelry will be described as "Juliana style" which means, it looks like it could be, but I haven't had the piece verified yet.

We also offer Sarah Coventry jewelry made by D&E

Spectacular Juliana Style Aurora Borealis AB Rhinestone Brooch!

This gorgeous vintage brooch flashes springtime pastels of pale citrine, lavender, blue and more, depending on the lighting and colors in the environment. It is quite magical, constructed in layers with eyelets, all stones prong set.  Use it just under the plunging neckline of your evening wear to draw attention to your décolletage, or go sweet and pin this crescent shaped jewel just under top button or collar, or use it to brighten up your bag, or pin a scarf or shawl. The jewel is 2 7/8" wide, nearly 2" tall, and rises about 3/4" from the pin stem. Excellent condition, ready for wearing or gifting. Enjoy for $38!

DeLizza & Elster Blue and Green Rhinestone Brooch

Verified by Frank DeLizza. The blends of colors in this star-splashed jewel will be the only thing you need to dress up a set of khakis, or to don for an evening in silk. The center stone is a very unusual unfoiled smoky lavender oval, prong set in a layered openwork finding. This incredible stone is haloed by a ring of sapphire chatons and bordered by a tilt-a-whirl of blue and green navettes, accented by a couple of emerald chatons. All in gold tone, this jewel is 1 3/4" tall x 1 1/2" wide. Excellent condition. $35

Karu Arke Inc.   Produced costume jewelry from circa 1950 to the 1970s.

Rare Karu Arke Retro Rhinestone Brooch Gold Filled Cutwork Brooch/Pendant.

This is the first Retro style I've seen from Karu. This is a classic,  beautifully curled, post WWII retro style with gold tone pierce work, and swept into ribbon curls. In my pictures, the square rhinestones look blue, but they are not, they are dazzling clear! The round stones are aqua. All stones are prong set with open backs, and the piece offers both a pin mechanism and a hook put on a chain if desired. Measurement is 2 1/4" tall x 1 3/4" wide. Condition is Very Good! Signed in back Karu.

Kenneth J. Lane, KJL . The earliest signature used by Kenneth Lane is Kenneth (c) Lane. Later signatures are K.J.L., Kenneth Jay Lane, Kenneth (c)Lane, KJL and more. Also, see KJL Avon

Kirschenbaum, Ben. I could find no information about this signature, except that it is very rare.

Rare Kirschenbaum Antique Art Deco Sash Pin

Step patterns, sunrays and fans--Oh my! The luxurious 3-D arrangement of gilded brass pleats, tucks and folds wonderfully represent Art Deco Design. Crystal rhinestones, invisibly set in curved plates decorate either end,  and in the middle is a large, coronet set purple celluloid cabochon. An early safety clasp plus style dates this to circa 1925. Rhinestones are aging yet still sparkle glamorously. Dimensions are 3" wide x 1 3/4". Imagine this old time beauty nestled into a silk scarf around the neck, or to pin a velvet evening bag.  Brooch is signed BEN KIRSCHENBAUM N.Y. along with PAT. PEND. Even with mild corrosion near the signature plate in back, the pin is in Very Good condition. $85

Kramer

Kramer Pink & Purple Flower Brooch Set

Kramer Pink & Purple Flower Brooch Demi Parure

American costume jewelers turned out a deluge of designs during the 1960s Flower Power era, and Kramer was no exception. This is a lovely land weighty metal set enameled in pink and a delightful magenta/purple over goldtone. A spot of green enamel  has peeled off the leaf, but it's a charming little fault in a jewel old enough to be your grandma's. Otherwise sound, clean and unspoiled, your friends will smile when they see you--or her--wearing the jewels. The brooch is 3 1/4" tall with a flower head 2" in diameter; the matching clip on earrings are 1". Enjoy for $35.

Vintage Kramer Pink Crystal Swan Brooch

The textured golden metal of this gracefully designed swan offers glamour and imagination with it's sweep of pink crystal bicones among the tail feathers. This creation is circa 1955, during the golden age of costume jewelry. Measurements are about 2" x 2", this jewel is signed KRAMER (C) on the reverse. Excellent condition. A vintage Kramer beauty! $65

LAGUNA~ This company is best known for it's incomparable crystal jewelry and bead necklaces. My mother had a crystal necklace in the 1960s, which was--and still is--a basic for dress up occasions such as weddings.

The faux pearls in these earrings are white.

Laguna Faux Pearl Clip On Earrings

I'd love to see the necklace that goes with these great 1950s clip ons. The white faux pearls are piled up in layers of assorted sizes are wired into the silvertone finding, some accented with lacy black bead caps that will remind him of black lingerie! The earrings are 1 1/4" in diameter and quite chunky, rising nearly 1" from the clip surface. Signed LAGUNA, these earrings are in Very Good condition, with no peeling and mild wear on the back. $24

La Rel Well known for classic 1950's prom queen styles. At your own vintage theme prom, or at your reunion, you must wear La Rel!

Ledo ~ A mark used, among others, by Leading Jewelry Company founded by Ralph Polcini. They made high quality costumer jewelry. The company was in business from 1911 to 1960, then re-named Policini, stayed in business until 1989.

Leru According to jewelry expert Fred Rezazadeh, Leru seems to have manufactured a great deal of spring and summer pastel jewelry during the 1950s.

Leru Pop-Out Pink Plastic Flower Earrings

He'll as eager as Li'l Abner when he sees you in these delightful Daisy Mae clip earrings by Leru. Circa 1955, these big beauties of molded celluloid acetate are styled in a slightly cupped, tiered design, centered with sprockets of white ball beads and aurora borealis rhinestones. Brass clip findings are marked LERU. Just a bit less than 1 1/2" in diameter, these jewels will add that dash of femme to anything from camouflage to burlap bag dresses! New old stock in Very Good+ condition. $20

Lind-Gal The hard to find jewelry is marked @LG in an artist palate. This mark was used beginning in 1952. Probably no longer in business.

Limoges, France ~
Not a particular design house but an area around Limoges, France. Besides porcelain plates, dish sets and boxes, jewelry was made there as well.

Limoges Lady Portrait Porcelain Brooch

Reverse

Limoges Painted Porcelain Dark-Haired Lady Portrait Pin

This old trombone catch brooch from Limoges France depicts one of the most popular costume jewelry ladies of all times--an Empress, to bring out the Queen in you. These were made just after WWII, when Europe was impoverished. The jewels were imported to the U.S. and the sales, along with other imported items, helped rebuild France. The porcelain oval has hand-painted embellishments over the transfer, with the dark haired lady as demure as ever and her Mona Lisa smile as enigmatic! The porcelain is bezel set into the standard 1940s twisted wire frame; it fastens in back with a trombone clasp. Measurements are 1 7/8" x 1 3/8". Very Good condition. Marked "Limoges France Unique," a special marking. SOLD

Little Nemo
& Nemo
~Little Nemo Manufacturing Company began in 1913 and produced jewelry until 1978. L/N is an early mark, sometimes with a number. NEMO is a later incarnation of the same company, which changed it's name to the Brier Manufacturing company.

L.S. Co. and Lustern -- LOUIS STERN CO., Providence, RI. In business from 1870s to approximately 1950. L.S. Co. seems to be the earlier mark. Some of the L.S. pieces are set with real pearls and gemstones.

Big & Wild Sterling Silver L.S. Co. Retro Brooch

These huge sterling pieces by Louis Stern Co are all wartime retro, but this one has more of a tropical deco design, back from the days when the art deco linear design lines were evolving into the spare nosegays of retro modern. In most of these old pins, like this one, the prong set stones are unfoiled and absolutely brilliant. In this one, the main prong set aqua stone is surrounded by little blue stones that are set by golden leaves overlays!. Not all the leaves and fronds have vermeil coating; this is deliberate to the design, since gold and silver together in one jewel was stylish during the 1940s. For instance, the dropped leaf to the right of the brooch is bare silver; not a trace of old vermeil can be found on it, indicating it ws designed that way, as well as the wires at the base of the bouquet.  The brooch is a big one at 4 1/2"  x 3 3/8" wide. Signed on the diamond-shaped plaque, L.S. Co. 1/20 12K GF Sterling Silver. Very Good condition, with tarnish, especially in back.  $65
