Lovely, Unusual Hobe Victorian Revival Hand Painted Portrait Brooch

Probably 1960s Victorian Revival. When I saw this beauty, my breath caught! The lady is absolutely gorgeous, a lovely transfer with hand painted background and highlights--the lady's cheeks, eyes, pearls and parts of her hair ribbons and lace. The background is a delicate wash of blush and lights. Notice her curls! She sits under a clear Lucite cover in a coronet setting, reinforced with a rope finding and backed by chased floral petals, or perhaps a sunburst. What a joyful symbol of yesteryear's  feminine style!  The gold plated brass glows with warm patina. Very good+ condition, with tarnish in hard-to-get areas around the petals and in back. This brooch will be a special treasure for you or the old fashioned girl in your life! $95

Massive Black Diamond & Olivine Rhinestone Brooch

This one is a whopper! Don't expect to be able to wear this on a light blouse or dress. This is a coat brooch of all prong set "black diamond" rhinestones, made popular by Weiss during the 1950s. This magnificent jewel offers all the hallmarks of quality--a mix of chatons in several sizes along with pear shaped stones, all prong set in rhodium, or silvertone plating. The brooch is made in 4 layers or tiers. The outer tier has olive green chatons ringing around the outside. almost giving the brooch a tint, the breath of ocean tide pools. Also, there are clear crystals along the top edge of the lower tier, matched by a ring of clear crystals along the third tier. The top layer is recessed; the brooch reminds me of a dark wedding cake! If you see additional colors in the scans, please note that the rhinestones are extremely sparkly, reflecting shades within the environment. There is no yellow in any of the stones; any yellow you see are reflections of gold tone jewels placed on the same scan. The brooch is 3 1/4" in diameter, and rises about one inch from the pinstem! Excellent condition; enjoy this unsigned beauty for years and years to come! $55

Victorian Hand Painted Porcelain Mourning Brooch with Roses

For your consideration, an unusual, rare brooch from the turn of the century. For the ladies who painted these porcelains, pink roses meant friendship. With the black background, this pin meant mourning for a dear friend, a poignant reminder to our modern age that loss came more frequently and often earlier to our great grandmothers. The brooch is all hand painted, with the pink roses blooming out of a black background, and at the side a lily of the valley, which meant sweetness, and perhaps return to happiness. It may have been a gift to a lady in mourning. There is an intact painted golden band framing the porcelain. The wonderful brooch measures 1 3/4" and is prong set into a brass finding equipped with a very early safety clasp. I've left the brass unpolished, so there is still the outline of an old price sticker. Still condition is Very Good++. Give or enjoy for yourself this irreplaceable antique brooch. $68

Antique Intaglio Hand Painted Thistle Brooch

Circa 1900. Here's an unusual jewel; the gilded bezel and glass intaglio within are diamond shaped. The reverse carved thistle is painted russet with green leaves. In Victorian times, the thistle was a Scottish wedding symbol, representing strength, protection, and healing. This precious pin is 1 7/8" with the bezel being 3/16" wide. It has a riveted hinge and closes with an open C clasp. Very good condition, with some tarnish and wear on the gilding, as can be expected. Enjoy this unusual sweetheart! $45

A&Z Hand Painted, Gold Filled and Genuine Pearl Lady Portrait Brooch

For you today is a wonderful, rare find! This jewel is NOT Carl Art; it is rare because, while it is similar to the Carl Art brooches, it is signed A&Z and is made with real pearls! This exquisite little portrait offers a  gold filled frame, studded with genuine pearls, probably cultured. The portrait is covered in clear celluloid, and the transfer has hand painted overlay, accenting white on the lady's dress, her pearls, her head piece, and her eyebrows and  Do you love the colors? The transfer is very good and, while I found the little dots transfers leave on the lady, the background is so smooth I wonder if it is hand washed; I could not find even under magnification, the little dots. This delightful jewel is signed in back A&Z 1/20 12K GF. The writing is so tiny I could barely  make it out with a 5x loupe. The brooch is a bit over 1 1/2" tall and a bit over 1 1/4" wide.  It could have been made any time from the 1940s through the 1960s. Enjoy this great collectible jewel! Condition is very good. $65

Sarah Coventry Blue Lagoon AB Rhinestone Brooch

It was created by DeLizza & Elster for Sarah Coventry in the mid 1960s and was offered as hostess credit in their home party plan. Stones are all prongs set in silvertone and accented by sky blue and medium sapphire blue rhinestone chain. These is a sizable jewel, with the brooch measuring 2 1/2" tall. Gorgeous Sterling Craft by Coro Ribbon Bow Blue Rhinestone Flower Burst Brooch

This fine brooch is a "sterling" example of retro American wartime jewelry. Sterling Craft by Coro is one of Coro's best brands; I think it's worth it to collect all of them. Our prices are not based on sterling value, but on the beauty of design and historical meanings of the style and materials. A classic gold filled ribbon bow offers a bouquet overlay of blue and clear rhinestones, prong set open back, and an extra layer of a  exquisite metal work, a golden leaf. The brooch is 3" tall, 2 1/4" wide and very 3-d, rising almost in inch from the back of the leaf to the top of the flower. I used a 5x loupe to find very minor wear. Excellent condition. $65

Vintage Rhinestone Icy Crescent Honey Moon & Flower

Pretty little crescent moon or what used to be called "honeymoon" with flower inside it. All in lovely diamante, prong set in rhodium and sparkling busily.  I thought it might be Juliana because of all the eyelets in back, plus some stones are set openback, but am unsure. A few stones are  peppered and starting to look gray, but still nice for that awesome vintage look. $24

Rare Karu Arke Retro Rhinestone Brooch Gold Filled Cutwork Brooch/Pendant.

This is the first Retro style I've seen from Karu. This is a classic,  beautifully curled, post WWII retro style with gold tone pierce work, and swept into ribbon curls. In my pictures, the square rhinestones look blue, but they are not, they are dazzling clear! The round stones are aqua. All stones are prong set with open backs, and the piece offers both a pin mechanism and a hook put on a chain if desired. Measurement is 2 1/4" tall x 1 3/4" wide. Condition is Very Good! Signed in back Karu.  $35

Big Jade Butterfly Vintage Brooch

Here is a great butterfly with a body and wings of genuine carved jade. The eyes are red and it has a goldtone backing and antennae. This jade forest beauty is 2" tall x 2 1/4" wide at the top wingspan. The jade is not chipped, cracked and there are no fleabites. The Very Good condition rating due to bendy antennae. In Chinese lore, jade butterflies bring successful love! $35

Sparkly Green & Diamante Rhinestone Bouquet Brooch

Vintage bouquets are not unusual, but this one is, with its layered profusion of rhinestone flowers, all emerald green and white. It's very sparkly and enhances a morning glow or an evening in candlelight, hinting at what is wild within. The stones are piled on in three layers, making the brooch stand about 1/2" from the pin stem.  Measuring 2 1/4" tall  x 2" wide, the jewel is in Very Good condition, with a sparkling stones and smooth golden finish, which has moderate wear in back. $35

Exquisite Hand Painted Bouquet of Orchids Brooch.

Rare. Better than one orchid are more orchids, and this brooch offers a bouquet of three delightful flowers, with each top petal hand painted freckled white and yellow with underlying petals of coral, blue and lavender. For accent there are two prong set, sparkling dark blue and aqua rhinestones.  It is a lightweight brooch, construction very similar to other enameled jewels I've seen from Austria, although I can't be sure where this vintage beauty originated. Notice how some of the petals and the green foliage are lined with gold. This marvelous, rare  jewel is 2 1/2" tall, 1 7/8' wide, and rising in 3-d layers 1/2" from the pin stem.  I've never seen a more beautiful orchid brooch, have you? None of the paint is chipped or worn, the rhinestones are clean & sparkling, the gold tone finish sound.  Excellent condition. $38
